Artist Statement:
I moved frequently while growing up, and without a true sense of “home,” I developed a deep affinity for travel, adventure, and cross-country road trips. Art became my means of self-expression, a tool to explore nature, and a canvas for my imagination.
In today's world (where technology and social media intrude more than ever), I find myself striving for a sense of seclusion by creating depictions of remote sanctuaries nestled in surreal landscapes, where dreams, personal memories, past journeys, and ancestral history blend to form a secure sense of place and belonging.
My approach to art-making is tactile; I merge multiple hands-on techniques such as photography, collage, and drawing to craft my pieces, perpetually inspired by the textures, colors, and patterns found in nature.
My aim is to inspire others to venture outdoors, to detach from their screens, and to embrace the natural abundance of the world in real-time.
I wish for all of us to reclaim our attention and expand our imaginations.
Kristina currently lives and works in Chapel Hill, NC.
